Picture of the MolenleijTasks
Waterschap Brabantse Delta (litterally translated: 'Water Board Brabantse Delta') is a governmental organization, whose main concern is the surface water in its region. Waterschap Brabantse Delta has three different tasks:

  1. water quantity management; managing the amount of water and maintaining the right water level in rivers and canals;
  2. water control; providing protection against floods by means of dykes and quays;
  3. water quality management; probably our most important task, considering its high costs, is the care for the water quality of the surface water (the treatment of wastewater).

In the Netherlands, not all water management is done by the water boards.
In fact, water supply companies are in charge of the supply of drinking water and the Provinces have authority over the groundwater.
